28th SS VOLUNTEER PANZERGRENADIER DIVISION "WALLONIEN"

The Ukrainian Volunteer Platoon within this division was created from the Ukrainian emigrees and their descendants, who fought for Ukrainian republic in 1918-21 and settled in Belgium. The volunteer platoon was cought up in the Cherkassy encirclement. About 60% of them survived and managed to break out of the Cherkassy pocket - one of the most famous Waffen SS battles.
