9th SS PANZER DIVISION "HOHENSTAUFEN"

Activated in France in 1942, German conscripts, cadre from LAH division. Fought in Poland, Ukraine (defence of Ternopil), transfer to France, retreat to Brussels. Fouhgt effectively under Kampfgruppe Harzer, fought in Ardennes, heavy battles in Hungary (defence of Budapest), surrendered to US troops in Steyr, Austria.

During its stay in Ukraine, the division was filled with Ukrainian recruits, which originally were intended for Galicia division. From the casualty list, following names appear: V. Kohut (died in France), M. Frankiv, M. Martyniuk, H. Shandrot, S. Kliak, Oberschutze V. Ptashnyk (died in Normandy).
