30th WAFFEN SS DIVISION "BELARUS"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are many misunderstandings about the name of the division to start with. While some authors identify the division as Russian, others consider it to be Ukrainian, the division was actually Belorussian but it did include many Ukrainians in it. The Division was formed in July 1944 from Belorussian Schuma Batallions (Nr. 57, 60, 61) and also Ukrainian Polizeifuhrer batallion from Prypiat'. Besides that batallion many ukrainians were in those Belorussian police batallions, since they were formed in the mixed Belorusso-Ukrainian regions. The collar patch was the Belorussian Cross.

The division was sent to France in August 1944 and latter transfered to Germany. The survivors were handed over to Vlassov's ROA (Russian Liberation Army) in October 1944 and became the bulk of his 2nd ROA division.
